Bryan Steel

Bryan Steel was a member of the British Cycling team for 18 years, competing at the very highest level in the sport.  He competed in an incredible 14 World Championships and 4 Olympic Games.  In Sydney he took a bronze medal in the Team Pursuit and eclipsed that with a silver medal in the same discipline in Athens.  In total he won 35 National medals in cycling.

Throughout his career, Bryan was a lynchpin of the British Cycling team and since retiring from the sport, he has used the lessons learnt in elite sport, to design and manage programmes in education, sport and business.  He has talked at hundreds of events, in schools and in business about motivation, development and excellence.

Bryan is one of the senior mentors for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust and has worked closely with UK Sport, Sport England and Youth Sport Trust. He is a Former Sport England Sporting Champion and regional leader for the East Midlands.

He is a member of the Direct Access scheme

He undertakes ambassador roles with:

  • Board member of England Netball (working with their performance sports sub committee).
  • Senior mentor for the Challenge youth program.
  • Ambassador for the special Olympic Leicester 2009.
  • Former Board member of Sports Nottinghamshire county sport partnership.
  • A patron of the Thomley Activity Centre, Oxford shire.
  • An Anti drug ambassador for UK sport for the 100% me campaign and trained tutor.
  • A sporting hero for the East Midlands Advocates Project.
  • Sport England Sporting Champion and regional leader for the East Midland.
  • A member of the Direct Access scheme.
  • A member of the British Olympic Association Planning for Success scheme.
